Frequently Asked Questions

1. Should I notify the neighbors that I am building a new fence?

Yes, your neighbors will need to make arrangements for their pets and secure or remove items left in yard. Neighbors also need to be aware that items attached to the fence may be unknowingly damaged or disposed of during removal.

2. If a bordering fence is shared with a neighbor, who works out shared expenses and/or collects from them?

This is the homeowners responsibility. As uncomfortable as it is sometimes to deal with neighbors, the contract is between you and Cedar Creek Fences for the total amount of the contract. Arrangements made between homeowners are between you and them, unless prior arrangement are made.

3. Does Cedar Creek Fences locate property pins and install new fence on property line?

No. Cedar Creek puts the fence back where it was originally located unless a prior agreement is made to move fence to alternate location(s). Cedar Creek Fences accepts no liability for survey disputes between home owners. If you have concerns about property lines or the fence line we recommend contracting a local survey company to locate and establish property lines.

4. Who deals with HOA’s, deeds, and city codes relating to fence or gate?

In most cases Cedar Creek Fences will acquire local city permit(s). It is homeowner’s responsibility to read deed and HOA restrictions related to your fence, and to submit HOA application (if applicable). HOA deeds and local building codes can restrict easements, heights, stain color preferences, and even materials used.

5. Does Cedar Creek Fences locate underground utilities?

Yes, Cedar Creek Fences will contact DigTess to locate and mark underground utility lines. DigTess only marks main utility lines up to the meters. All utility lines between meters and home are the responsibility of the homeowner to locate. Sprinkler lines are also the responsibility of home owner.

6. How deep are posts set in the ground?

To avoid posts from leaning over time all posts are set at least 36” deep, using 5500 psi concrete.

7. How far apart are posts set?

To prevent fences from sagging and leaning all fences are set 6’ apart or less, unless otherwise noted. This is standard unless something like utility lines or some other obstacle prevents us.

8. How is concrete mixed?

Cedar Creek pre-mixes all concrete for all fence project before pouring into post holes. This ensures the correct amount of water is added and mix is completely blended. We never dry-mix, which is the lazy way of pouring dry concrete into the hole, adding water and mixing it as best you can. This never ends up well.

9. What grade or quality of picket is used?

Cedar Creek uses the best grade cedar wood available. The grading of cedar is solely based on a percentage of knots to the board. No matter what the grade Cedar Creeks Fences will take the time to go through each board to ensure every board is the way it should look.

10. Do you recommend staining fences?

It is highly recommended to stain all fences. Cedar will last years without stain, but longevity and appearance are reduced. If protected with a sealer/stain, and maintained every 3-5 years, a cedar fence can last 20 – 30 years, and more.

11. Do you recommend pre-dipping wood or stain after installation?

It is highly recommended to build the fence, let it stand and dry out for around 4 weeks, then stain the fence. Wood is very often acquired in a very “green” state (high in moisture). Keep in mind this wood used to be a tree. If stain is applied to the wood too soon the moisture in the wood will repel the stain and it generally won’t last very long.

12. Does my new fence come with any warranty?

Yes, every project and fence includes a conditional warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials ranging from 3 to 10 years depending on fence, project and products installed.

13. Is your company insured?

Yes, Cedar Creek Fences is fully insured.

14. What is the time frame to have fence built?

Start time varies throughout the year. The three primary factors that affect the start time are time of year, business demand and weather. An average start time once contract is signed is approximately 3 – 4 weeks. The length of time to build a fence also varies. The size of fence, height, trim options, retaining walls all factor in. An average 150 linear foot fence should take approximately 3 days, maybe four. Just ask, and we’ll be happy to tell you what things are looking like for any given week.
